RE: Guess What!?

My Guess What artist talk at The White House Studio Project was amazing with a great turn out and a lot of interest about the concepts i've been working on. People sure get excited by the unknown.
There may be an audio or video recording of the lecture, but i am not sure if the internet is ready for that. In the meantime here is a photo from the evening.

Guess What!!??

I've got an artist talk going on this Thursday 28 April 2011 at the White House Studio Project Located at #277.5 Augusta Ave. Toronto, Ont. come out and listen to me talk about fantastic and strange interactions where science and art make contemporary culture.

Matt Mincoff is an artist/sculptor from Hamilton Ontario and has studied at OCAD (BFA 2007) and RMIT Melbourne (MFA 2010). His practice is an exploration of what is unknown and how can we communicate what should be unexplainable. With this focus on the unknown he has worked with the concepts of the mind, ghosts, identity, invisibility, spirit, relationships and n-dimensional geometry through various approaches to objects, installation, images, sounds and video.
The workshop will discuss various topics that Mincoff has been recently working on through his art practice with slide presentations of his work and relevant media to support the concepts under the title “seeing beyond looking through”.

speaking of collaborating

Like i mentioned in the previous post I enjoy working on various projects with different people that I know. This morning i received an email from Australia sent by my pal and partner in crimes Bec. She is a jewlery maker and fellow creator and connoisseur of stuff. I left a few unfinished sculptures with her in hopes that she could help finish them. I was pretty stoked to hear that this is already happening! Bec sent me these photos of what she had added to a simple square base i left with her.

I really like these gumnut monsters she has made on top of a base that i had made with no idea what to do with. Look at how cute and funny they are! Its really exciting to me to see how things can grow so unexpectedly when you work with someone else. I can't wait to see what else gets made in this collaboration!

Steamboat Opera Album Cover

A childhood friend of mine Chris Martin recently contacted me about doing some cover art for his new music project Steamboat Opera. What i made for him is a digital collage of images of the Apollo 11 launch and recovery juxtaposed with the sinking of the steamboat Cheslakee and the area surrounding where it sank off of Texada Island B.C. Here is a sample of that collage without the titling and track info.

and if you are wondering what Steamboat Opera will sound like have a listen below

It's always fun to do projects with different people and for different projects. i am looking forward to seeing how these turn out after the text and logos go on them. I'll be sure to post the final product when it surfaces.
Also be sure to check out Steamboat Opera on Facebook

upgraded

I realized today I needed to update my online presence a little, clean up the layout a bit here on the blog and get some content i've been meaning to uploaded posted. Taken care of.
With the ever growing amount of content i am producing and posting i have created a new portal page to more easily navigate my all of my projects both present and past.
click below to check it out

the plan was to keep the page clean/simple and basic screen captures suited the job nicely. I am planning on updating them from time to time as pages progress or just as i like. also be sure to check out the two new projects: still pending title 2011 and superimposition for new images of artworks.
thank you if you read through this redundant blog about blogging (TL;DR)

Understanding: looking through (2011)

Learning is an equilibrium of constructive and destructive thoughts. The processes of Learning facilitate change similar to the additive and subtractive processes that transform this notebook into an abstract identity. Leaning is a holistic process, it can not be understood as a sum of it's parts, it is like a window one chooses to peer through into somewhere else. - Matt Mincoff
